Posto chicken...hmmm???

After the success of chicken Pratima last week i took the venture of cooking one more dish. It's posto chicken. Chicken with poppy seeds. It was a semi gravy dish with posto as its main ingredient. Since i'm much more into spicy, oily foods i will rate it as 7.2/10.  But user customer rating says 8-9/10. so it was a pretty good trial...but the cook is not all that much satisfied. Try it out for yourself.

Ingredients:
Chicken - 250-300 g, cut to small pieces
Onion - 1 medium, sliced
Ginger - 1 tsp, grated
Garlic - 1 tsp, grated
Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
Red Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
Poppy seeds/posto - 1 and 1/2 tbsp
Cinnamon/Dalchini - 1 inch
Green cardamom/elaichi - 2
Cloves/Lobongo - 4
Coriander leaves/Cilantro - 2 tbsp, very finely chopped
Green Chilly - 3-4
Salt - To taste
Oil - 3 tbsp
Preparation:
Grind poppy seeds with little water, salt, green chillies. If in the US, soak poppy seeds in warm water for easy grinding for as long as possible.
Dry grind cardamom, cinnamon, and cloves into a coarse powder (use a coffee grinder if available).

Cooking procedure:
Heat oil in a kadhai. Add onions and fry for 2 mins.
Add ginger and garlic paste and continue to fry for another 2 mins on medium high heat. Add turmeric + red chilli powder and fry for 1 minute or till oil separates.
Add chicken and fry for 2 mins on medium heat. Then add garam masala powder  posto/poppy seed paste. Mix well and fry for 5 minutes.
Add 1/2 cup warm water and bring to boil.
Cover and cook on medium low heat for 7-8 minutes or until chicken is cooked.
Garnish with chopped cilantro.

What a great success it was yesterday...

Yesterday i took a venture of cooking a chicken recipe which i downloaded from the net. It's name was Chicken Pratima. And i was a bit apprehensive about how good will it turn out to be. But dear friends, it was a pretty good success. Being honest i'm generally satisfied with what i cook, but yesterday i was quite overwhelmed. So here goes the simple recipe and i bet any one can try it out for themselves and i guarantee, you are gonna love it!!!!
      Ingredients:

Chicken - 1 kg cut into medium pieces
Onion - 200 g, finely sliced
Ginger - 1 and 1/2  tbsp, grated/paste
Garlic - 1 and 1/2  tbsp, grated/paste
Cilantro/Dhonepata - 1 and 1/2 cups
Green Chillies - 12 mildly hot (vary according to   the quality available)
Doi/Curd - 200 g
Tej Pata/ Bay Leaf - 2 small
Salt - To taste
White Oil - 2 tbsp
Mustard Oil - 4 tbsp
Ghee -1 tbsp
Coarsely grind the following together:
Whole Jeera/Cumin Seeds - 1/2 tsp
Whole Black peppers - 1 tsp
Cinnamon - 1 inch
Green cardamom - 4
Cloves - 4
Preparation:
Grind doi/curd, cilantro/dhonepata, and green chillies together with 1/4 cup water. In a bowl mix the chicken pieces with the paste made above, ginger, and garlic. Keep aside for 3-4 hours.
 Cooking procedure:

Heat 2 tbsp white oil and 2 tbsp mustard oil in a kadhai. Add the marinated chicken pieces along with the marinating masala and cook on low heat for 25-30 minutes or till the chicken is cooked. There should be enough water to cover the chicken so you may add warm water if required, especially if you have used a sheel nora to make dhonepata and chilly paste. No frying is done at this stage.
Keep aside the cooked chicken. The chicken should not be completely dry at this stage so keep some gravy when removing from heat.
In a kadhai heat 2 tbsp mustard oil and 1 tbsp ghee.
Add bay leaf and the coarsely ground masala.
Add sliced onions and fry on low heat to soften the onions (about 5 minutes).
Add the boiled chicken and cook on low fire for another 7 minutes until oil comes to the surface. Adjust water as per your desire. This is a semi-dry preparation.
When oil comes to the surface, remove from heat and garnish with slit green chillies and chopped cilantro/dhonepata.

Save my mother and yours too...

The pain you bring to my eyes, is enough,
to keep me awake all night.
The pain you bring to my life, is enough,
to keep me away from light.
where are the green lush meadows
that we heard of, in fairy tales?
Where are the daffodils and wild flowers of your garden?
All gone! It's us who gave you death.
It's us who took away your wealth.
It's us who caused the icebergs to melt and it's us who, unknowingly put you in the hand of death.
"Save the planet" is a slogan now, with banners and ad.
If we would not have been there, may be you would have been glad.
Look at you-Mother Nature-lonely,poor,
we your own children are going to kill you for sure!!!
Save my mother and save yours too.
What if it's late? Let's try a new.

pillow fights, fight over lemon juices...are all anecdotes

She is now married. A new girl in a completely new look and family. Each word of her measured. A phone call, or an e mail. That's all for the time being. Performing pretty well. Her husband seems to be the only source of happiness in the new place(not literally), as all others are too good, and too new to be free with, right now. Days will pass and these unknown people will be her part...completely. She will get a very little chance to have a pillow fight or will rarely fight over the lemon juice coming out of the salad. There she is with a new perspective of life and trying to make everything perfect. Still when we get time, we fight over various issues. But pillow fights and stuffs...that does not go well with her image-NOW. Sari, bangles, sindur, and a permanent smile on her face is all that we wished for and that's all we are getting. The careless look has changed in a matter of hours. But she is still sensitive, emotional, scared as before. May be more. She can not afford to be scared of ghosts at night any more. Because she is scared..."What if my in laws find it funny???" The gentle, caring and supportive nature of her husband is making her fear free everyday. She is understanding that she is becoming the girl of the new family and not the daughter in law. She's happy. We are happy too. We are happy to see her with a great husband, from a very good family. A husband we can count on and a family who,we know, will give her enough love that any girl can ask for. Mrs. my didi. We love you a lot. And we love to see you happy. With such a great husband by your side, you can not fear anything, anybody, anywhere. Love yourself and love your surroundings to get the love you want.....Baba, i know you will keep an eye on her-always. Take care- both of you.

The event is up close

6th August is not far away. only 8 more days to go. didi's marriage is up close and all of us are- anxious, tensed, tired (of shopping and stuff), and of course HAPPY. condition is heated everywhere. everyone is hyper and a mess is going around- in a steady manner. thanks to ma, who is single handedly handling all the work with minor help from us. confusion is all around. starting from selecting the sweet till buying hand towel for the guests- everywhere there is confusion, heated discussion, and of course FUN. Didi is of course tensed about her new life...but thats natural. Anyways, loads of work has been done, loads left. Being an optimist i guess everything will go fine. Missing baba a lot. his presence would have given a new dimension to the whole commotions which is going around. Ma is working like anything to fulfill all that didi wants. Hope this ends with smile, laughter and some tears of JOY.

The beginning...

Hi everyone. Finally I've managed to create my own blog. All these days, months, years I've been reading other people's blog. And finally decided to create one of my own. i'm not all that much regular "writer" kinda person. my enthusiasm of writing starts soon and ends sooner... I hope this new venture continues longer!!!!!
